What to expect on your first visit
On your first visit to the clinic you will be asked to fill out a patient form. You may save yourself some time by printing and completing the patient form available online before attending the clinic.
You will be seen by a registered physiotherapist on your first and each subsequent visit. The physiotherapist will ask you questions about your injury or condition and will perform a physical assessment to further determine the nature of your problem.
If you have an X-ray, MRI, CAT scan or other medical report, please bring the report or images with you. You may also have your doctor fax the reports to us. Our fax number is (905) 823-2933
We can open most digital images. If your images are on a disc, then please bring the disc with you. The physiotherapist will open the image on a computer and review the images with you.
Do i need a prescription from my doctor?
You do not need a prescription from your doctor for physiotherapy. However, some insurance companies require a doctor’s prescription before covering the cost of physiotherapy under an employer’s or retiree’s insurance plan. If you cannot get an appointment with your doctor immediately, then you may wish to visit a local walk-in medical clinic for a doctor’s prescription for physiotherapy. For more information on insurance please visit Physiotherapy Insurance on our website.
When to book your appointment
Lightspeed Rehabilitation is open from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm from Monday to Friday. We are also open Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Please call (905) 823-2226 for an appointment.
The sooner we see you, the sooner you will get better.
If your injury is recent, the sooner we start your treatments, the faster you will recover and with fewer treatments. Back injuries, sprains & strains, bruises, contusions, torn ligaments, whiplash and broken bones (try to get a removable cast if possible) all heal very quickly when treated with laser therapy immediately after the injury.
When Chuck Mooney was the Head Trainer for the Raptors, Chuck told us that he would take injured players from the court and immediately apply laser therapy. The results were quite impressive. Chuck returned more players to the court faster than any other trainer at that time.
Due to a rapid increase in demand for our laser-physiotherapy services, initial appointments are available during week days only. Saturday morning and Friday afternoon appointments (after 3:00 pm) are reserved for existing patients.
If your injury is acute, then please call and we will make every effort to see you as soon as possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are in the process of increasing our capacity and plan to resume scheduling new patient appointments for Saturday and late Friday afternoons soon.
How long will my first visit be?
Your first visit may be 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the medical condition you are seeing us for. Your first visit will include an assessment and treatment.
Generally speaking, back, hip and neck injuries take a little longer to assess. Allow up to 90 minutes for your first visit for these conditions. Subsequent visits for these medical conditions will take approximately an hour.
For all other conditions, please allow 45 to 60 minutes for your assessment and treatment. Subsequent visits for these treatments will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
How many times a week will I need treatment?
How fast do you want to get better? If you schedule three to four appointments in the first week of treatment, this is ideal. Laser therapy has a cumulative effect. In order to get the most from your treatment you will need regular treatments. After your first week, three times a week is excellent. However, if all you can manage are two visits a week, then you will get the same results but it may take a little longer for you to get better.
So it really comes down to one simple question, “How fast do you want to get better?” Whatever your schedule is, we will accommodate you and customize your treatment to give you the maximum benefit possible.
Be prepared to relax
At Lightspeed Rehabilitation we do everything we can to help you relax during your treatment. The laser therapy treatment is painless. The gentle warmth you may feel during the treatment coupled with the endorphin release, will help place you at ease.
Since we place you in a comfortable position, many patients fall asleep during their treatment. We think this is wonderful! So many people with pain have trouble sleeping at night. A short nap during your treatment is beneficial. So if you if you feel like dozing off, go ahead, it’s okay. We will gently wake you when your time is up.
